Both the Burren region and The Cliffs of Moher are two of the most spectacular attractions that Ireland has to offer. You will be warmly welcomed when touring with Lally Tours, and, if you wish to experience both these wonderful areas on the every same day, there is no better way to travel!
Your professional, experienced and entertaining driver-guides will have you fascinated and amazed by their local knowledge and commentary along the route of this leisurely tour. Opportunities to take photos along the way - which are not to be missed in this unique and awe-inspiring landscape - will also, be provided.
'The Burren and the Cliffs of Moher Tour' departs from Galway City at 10am (approx) and travels through to the coastal village of Oranmore, the famous Oyster village of Clarinbridge, before heading seawards again at Kilcolgan.
Next is the village of Kinvara, which is situated at the head of Kinvara Bay. The Medieval Banqueting castle of Dunguaire stands guard at the entrance to this coastal village.
From here a short climb provides a view of the 12th century Cistercian Abbey of Corcomroe – before reaching Bell Harbour. An opportunity can be provided at this stage of the tour to do a hike along the Burren territory.
The tour then leads onto The Aillwee Caves. Visitors to the caves can take a 30-minute tour to the dramatic underworld of the ancient caverns. This consists of a leisurely stroll through the beautiful limestone caves – over bridged chasms, under weird formations and alongside the thunderous waterfall, which sometimes gently sprays the unsuspecting visitor! (Entrance fee charged at the Caves)
Passengers can gain FREE entry to the 'Birds of Prey' and educational centre, which includes a flying display – when purchasing a ticket to the spectacular Aillwee Caves. We are the only tour company offering this combination deal!
Once in the Burren region – you will notice dramatic changes in the landscape. Limestone soon becomes a permanent feature on one side of the road - the awesome majestic Atlantic Ocean on the other.
The area is surrounded by Megalithic tombs, Celtic ring forts, Medieval churches, and Castles. Beyond the village of Ballyvaughan we return back on coast road and pass The Black Head lighthouse. Out beyond in the blue Atlantic are the three Aran Islands - Inishmor, Inish Mean and Inisheer as well as the outline of the Connemara coast.
In many ways this fascinating tour takes us through parts of the 'hidden Ireland'. At this stage we are deep in the Burren Region in North County Clare. This area is world-renowned for its un-spoilt landscape and truly stunning beauty as well as its very unique flora and fauna. Visitors to the 'Banner County' (Clare) are instantly attracted to this exceptional terrain, which boasts of having a remarkable mixture of flora and fauna. Plants that would normally grow on high mountain tops grow here at sea level. There is nowhere else in Europe where Mediterranean and Arctic-Alpine plants grow together in a similar way.
Our tour now takes us through the village of Doolin, which traditionally was a small seaside village on the north west of the county. It is now renowned as home to some of Ireland's finest traditional musicians. This is where we will be taking our lunch break.
The Cliffs are one of Ireland's top visitor attractions. They are 214m high at the highest point & stretch for 8 kilometers over the Atlantic Ocean on the western seaboard of County Clare.
O'Brien's Tower stands proudly on a headland of the majestic Cliffs. From the Cliffs the Aran Islands, Galway Bay, as well as The Twelve Pins, the Maum Turk Mountains in Connemara and Loop Head to the South can all been seen.
All passengers traveling with Lally's – can enter the Cliffs as well as the visitor and state of the art interpretive centre – Atlantic Edge – FREE OF CHARGE.
After experiencing the awesome Cliffs of Moher, we travel along the road down to Lisdoonvarna. This is the home to Ireland's annual match-making festival, which takes place in September.
After Lisdoonvarna passengers will be brought to view the Portal Dolmen of Poulnabrone. This is one of the world's best known and most visited dolmens and is estimated to be over 4,500 years old.
After an exciting & fun-filled tour and after having seen so many amazing sites on the Burren & Cliffs of Moher Tour – it is now time to make our way back along the main road to Galway City. We arrive back at the drop off point at 5.30pm approx.
